Second Interview – A Good Sign, A Great Opportunity

Congratulations! You’ve been granted a second interview. That means you are an excellent candidate for the job, but now you need to prove that you’re the best candidate for the job.  Since you will most likely be meeting with new people, some of the questions may be the same, but some may be tougher. Here’s a chance to include anything you may have forgotten the first time around and to really demonstrate what you can bring to the position.

Great Second Interview Tips

  • Mentally review your first interview and think about what went well and what you can improve on.

  • A second interview allows you to confirm your interest in the position and the company. Take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the organization. Ask questions based on comprehensive research that you conduct in preparing yourself for this round of questioning.

  • Be prepared for behavioural interviewing questions.

  • It’s still important to dress to impress. Wear something that makes you feel good about yourself.

  • Consider chatting with an employee for some “insider” information. This may help you feel more comfortable and give you a preview to the culture of the organization.

  • You may be asked about salary expectations. Do your homework to find out what’s reasonable and be prepared to negotiate.

  • Get a good night’s sleep.

  • Don’t forget to send a thank you letter to everyone on the interview panel.

  • How and when are performance appraisals conducted?

  • Describe the organization’s corporate culture.

  • Do you support professional development?
